This thing is designed for some of the buggiest environments on the planet, and coming up, we’ll show you some of the innovative features included in the Jungle Expedition that will make this hammock your Bug Free Backpacker of Choice.
Hennessy has been on the market for just over 20 years now, and was started by Tom Hennessy as a way to create an improved sleep system modeled after Military Surplus hammocks from the 1950s. They’re super lightweight, and really quick to set up and tear down.
We got a chance to review the hammock system, heat reflecting bubble pad, and the Hennessy snakeskin system.
Jungle Expedition Asymmetrical Zip Review
The Jungle Expedition Zip, like all Hennessy Hammock, has their patented asymmetrical shape for an easier diagonal lie and a structural ridge line to allow for consistency across every hang.
It’s 10’ long with a height limit of 6′ tall, and a weight limit of 250 lbs.
It’s got a pretty nice pack size at 5″ x 9″ x 10” and comes in at right around 3lbs. (3lbs 14oz. w/ rainfly and straps)
The rainfly is a 70d polyurethane coated polyester ripstop fabric that is a 63″ X 99″ parallelogram and 132” long at the ridgeline.
It’s got a 30d Polyester No-See-Um netting with a Heavy duty black double slider #10 YKK zipper, as well as a 100% mosquito-proof double bottom with two layers of tightly woven 40D nylon taffeta, which is also designed hold their optional DoubleBubble Pad for added bug protection and warmth.
The straps are a 1.5” x 42” black polyester webbing and weigh 3oz.

Hennessy Heat Reflecting Double Bubble Pad
This com-“pad”-able (sorry… couldn’t resist) reflective sleeping pad fits perfectly between the layers on your hammock bottom, and bounces 97% of your body heat back at you, much in the same way as the reflective windshield visors used by many backpackers, but designed to fit perfectly in your hammock.
It has elastic toggles that attach to the inside of your hammock to keep it position at the correct diagonal no matter how much you toss and turn.
It is 67” long, and 29” at the shoulders with a tapered shape down to 15” at the foot.
It weights 10 oz and, while a little bulky, coils neatly around the inside of your pack. A small price to pay when it can make or break a good night’s sleep.

SnakeSkins are an instant stuff sack system that collapses your Hennessy Hammock in about 30 seconds. Your shelter never touches the ground, never gets dirty or muddy. It just disappears into two tapering tubes of silnylon which sit gathered on the ropes at each end of the hammock for amazingly quick set up and take down. For use with all Hennessy Hammock models. The 70 D poly hex fly requires an additional pair of snakeskins because the hex fly is bulkier than the standard rainflies.
